What we collect, and what we don't.

We are a small rescue run by two people. We collect as little as we can get away with, and we would rather tell you plainly what that is than bury it. Last updated 28 September 2026.

The short version

Browsing this site is anonymous to us. We do not sell, rent or trade anyone's information, and we never will. We do not send marketing email. If you donate, your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our systems.

What this site collects

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which pages people read and which dogs they look at. It sets cookies in your browser and tells us things like which page you arrived from, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you used. We see totals and patterns, not people. We cannot look up an individual visitor, and we have not asked Google to let us.

We deliberately do not send Google anything that identifies a person. Not your name, not your email address, not a scrambled version of either.

Donations

Donations are handled entirely by Stripe. When you donate you are on Stripe's own page, not ours. Stripe collects your name, email address and payment details in order to take the payment and send you a receipt, and they hold that information under their own privacy policy. We can see that a donation happened and who made it, so we can thank you and keep our records straight. We never see your card number.

After a donation you land on our thank-you page. That page records a single marker in your browser's local storage so that refreshing it does not count your donation twice. It holds a payment reference and nothing about you, it never leaves your browser, and clearing your browsing data removes it.

The volunteer and adoption forms

If you fill in one of our interest forms we keep what you tell us: your name, email address, phone number if you give one, your ZIP code, and your answers to the few questions on the form. We use it to reply to you and to have the conversation you started. Nothing more.

Two answers end the form there and nothing is kept. If you tell us you are under 18, or that you rent and your landlord does not allow dogs, we show you a message and store nothing at all. We would rather not hold the details of someone we have already had to say no to.

We ask for a ZIP code rather than a town because Los Angeles County is enormous and it tells us whether fostering or transport is practical for you. We store only the five digits. The town name you see appear under the box is looked up in your browser to confirm you typed the right thing, and it is never sent to us. We work out a rough distance from it, which is a straight line and not a driving distance.

That lookup uses ZIP code data fromGeoNames.org, licensed CC BY 4.0. The file sits on our own site, so looking up your ZIP tells nobody else anything about you.

Email

If you write to us we keep the email, because that is how a conversation works. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else.

Photographs

Every photograph on this site has its embedded metadata stripped before we store it. Phone cameras record the exact location a picture was taken, and many of ours were taken in a family home. We remove that in our own code, on upload, every time, not as a setting that could be switched off.

What we never collect

Not on this site, not on any form we build, not ever:

Who we share it with

Nobody, beyond the services that make the site work: Stripe for payments, Google for analytics, and Cloudflare, who host the site and serve its pages. Each of these holds data under their own terms. We do not sell, rent, trade or otherwise hand on anyone's information, and there is no circumstance in which we would.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. The children who appear in photographs on our story page are our own, and they are never named anywhere on this site.

Your choices

You can block cookies in your browser, or use a content blocker, and this site will work normally, and the analytics simply will not load. You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do it. Write to info@lilyandkin.org and a person will answer.

Backups are a separate thing. We keep them so we can recover if something goes badly wrong, they cannot be edited once written, and a copy of what you sent us stays in them until they expire.

Changes

When this policy changes in substance we will change the date at the top. We will not quietly broaden what we collect and leave the date alone.
